Just wanted to share my pregnancy experiences in the hopes of it might help someone.
The Exhaustion, Nausea, and Unexpected Changes
We were planning and didn’t have a dramatic moment when we found out I was pregnant. Around the 40th day, it just felt different. I always felt tired. I was just craving the bed, with zero motivation to get out. Not depressed, just tired. When I finally took the test to confirm, everything changed in an instant — excitement, surreal, and a little fear all at once.
A kind of tiredness that doesn’t go away with rest. Adding to it, our lift in the building went to 4 months of maintenance, climbing up to my 5th-floor apartment, which became a challenge. I felt heavy, and I constantly needed to lie down. It was my first sign that pregnancy isn’t just a physical change—it’s a complete shift in energy.
Then came the changes in appetite.
I felt hungry, but nothing was appealing. Foods I used to enjoy, like eggs and meat, suddenly I lost appetite to it. Even the smell of some vegetables became overwhelming. My senses were spiked in a way I wasn’t ready for.
What helped me most during this phase was keeping things simple. Light meals - Indian rice porridge, clementine fruits, and staying hydrated helped to cope.
Traveling during this time was another unexpected challenge. I had to take a flight to India for my graduation, and I was warned by my gyno about swollen legs on long flights. But it did not hit me on my first trimester, but sure did in second.
Looking back, the first trimester was somehow what I expected - I was far better in comparison to my other sisters whom I've seen how much they toiled. It was quieter, more internal, and at times a bit difficult than what I've had imagined. Also, it was also the beginning of something profound.
If there’s one thing I learned, it’s this: keep it lean with foods, take it slow, listen to your body without pushing it and allow yourself the space to adjust. The small adjustments—resting more, eating differently, avoiding triggers—made all the difference in getting through those early weeks.
